Walk for Life

The capital hosted a crowd of 16,000.

A healthy lifestyle was the theme of the annual walkathon.

Sixteen thousand people turned up to support Walk for Life’s call for the nation to embrace a healthy lifestyle by pacing five kilometres at Yas Marina Circuit in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi on Friday, November 25.

This is the largest ever crowd in the five years of the annual walkathon, part of the award-winning public health awareness campaign, ‘Diabetes-Knowledge-Action’ under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The event is organised by Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), and supported by The National Health Insurance Company – Daman.

The message is for everyone to take charge of their lifestyle by embracing a healthy diet and regular exercise, such as a 30-minute brisk walk every day. These smart, simple steps can help manage and even prevent diabetes.

In recent years diabetes has reached epidemic levels worldwide, with children as young as seven years of age developing diabetes. Since 2007, ICLDC’s campaign has reached out to more than 125,000 people in UAE.
