Executive Council leads capital’s corporate community in overwhelming support of I PLAY SPORTS

The General Secretariat of the Executive Council (GSEC), the local executive authority of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, is leading ten corporate community teams that are set to kick against Diabetes in the upcoming Ramadan football tournament to be held in the capital. GSEC has given its full support to the seven-a-side tournament, dubbed I PLAY SPORTS, and is onboard as the tournament’s Title Sponsor.

Early detection of Diabetes and related eye disease reduces the risk of vision loss in up to 90% cases

If left undetected Diabetes retinopathy can lead to vision loss and blindness, according to eye specialist, Dr Chris Canning, Consultant Ophthalmologist/Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, and Chief Executive and Medical Director, Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai.

ICLDC announces I PLAY SPORTS

Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), has launched I PLAY SPORTS, the fifth pillar in the award-winning ‘DIABETES.KNOWLEDGE.ACTION.’ public health awareness campaign. I PLAY SPORTS will kick-off with a corporate community football tournament geared to promote the importance of an active lifestyle. It will take place during the holy month of Ramadan (in Abu Dhabi, September 9-14 2008).

DIABETES AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE: A FATAL COMBINATION

Leading heart specialist, Dr Jenes Peder Bagger, Consultant Cardiologist, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), has indicated that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in people with Diabetes. He said that the risk of mortality is two to six times higher than in people without Diabetes.

Patients to find relief in controlled insulin and diet therapy; Diabetes treatment is a lot about human behaviour, says expert

The successful treatment of Diabetes has as much to do with lifestyle behaviour and good communication as it does with insulin, according to Diabetes specialist, Professor Tadej Battelino. "There is good clinical evidence that at every age and every situation the insulin pump is successful, however insulin is only one part of a successful Diabetes management strategy,” observed Professor Battelino.

ICLDC sheds light on liver disease in Diabetes patients

A fatty liver syndrome frequently thought to be the result of an excessive alcohol intake has now been linked to Diabetes, according to Professor Simon Taylor-Robinson, a visiting specialist at Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC).
