Diabetes specialists meet to discuss the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease

Incretin therapy signals a new era for Diabetes treatment and management, according to Karim Meeran, Professor of Endocrinology and Lead Clinician, Imperial College London. He was speaking at the opening day of the Primary Healthcare Congress 2008 (Abu Dhabi National Healthcare Centre, October 26-28, 2008). Professor Meeran suggested that the treatment of hyperglycaemia, or high sugar levels, must start with the simple steps of adopting a balanced diet and embarking upon a regular exercise regime.

10,000 to walk against Diabetes, says ICLDC

Abu Dhabi is preparing to mark this year’s World Diabetes Day (November 14 2008) with the staging of the second Diabetes walkathon to be held in the capital. More than 10,000 people are expected to join the now annual event dubbed WALK UAE 2008 and held in partnership with the Emirates Foundation, according to organisers at the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC). This shows a 100% increase on the 5,000 participants recorded at last year’s inaugural event.

SEHA takes home the I PLAY SPORTS cup and becomes nation’s first corporate ambassador for Diabetes

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) triumphed in the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre’s (ICLDC) I PLAY SPORTS Ramadan Football Tournament, and has been named the UAE’s first corporate ambassador in the nation’s fight against this debilitating disease. SEHA grabbed the cup from the clinches of Title sponsor, GSEC (General Secretariat of the Executive Council) with a winning goal just six minutes before the final whistle blew on the one-nil match result.

Abu Dhabi readies for I PLAY SPORTS final shoot-out; GSEC, Mubadala, ADAT and SEHA battle for the tournament cup

Abu Dhabi is on countdown for the upcoming finals of the first I PLAY SPORTS Ramadan Football Tournament to highlight the importance of exercise in preventing Diabetes, scheduled this Sunday (September 14 2008) at Zayed Sports City. Led by GCSE, ICLDC’s I PLAY SPORTS, in partnership with Emirates Foundation, will see the four group-match qualifying teams battle the semi-finals for a place in the cup final match. The I PLAY SPORTS final takes place on the same evening.

Hundreds expected to support I PLAY SPORTS Ramadan football tournament

Hundreds of supporters are expected to turn out to cheer the General Secretariat of the Executive Council (GSEC), the local executive authority of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and other corporate teams participating in the ICLDC’s I PLAY SPORTS Ramadan football tournament, in association with the Emirates Foundation. The numerous leading brand names swiftly followed GSEC’s move and jumped onboard to play a role in the event (from September 9, over four evenings) supported by the host venue, Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City.

ICLDC in full support of Sheikh Mohammed’s spotlight on blindness

In the wake of the Ramadan initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to help more than one million people manage against potential blindness, Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) confirms that if left undetected Diabetes retinopathy can lead to vision loss and blindness.
