Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island to host diabetes walkathon

More than 10,000 residents are expected to seize the opportunity to pace the YAS Marina Circuit track on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island in this year’s walk against diabetes, according to Dr Maha Taysir Barakat, Medical & Research Director and Consultant Endocrinologist, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre. WALK UAE, now in its third year, is part of the award-winning public health awareness campaign, ‘Diabetes Knowledge Action’, organised by ICLDC, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, and in partnership with Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy. Dr Barakat confirmed that the landmark circuit has offered itself as the venue for WALK UAE 2009 on November 20, 2009.

ICLDC and Fatafeat TV team up for Ramadan healthy cooking show

Gulf audiences can tune into a special Ramadan cook show, Sukar Mazbout, as Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), the premier diabetes treatment and research centre in Abu Dhabi, joins hands with Fatafeat TV food network. The daily show featuring tasty and healthy dishes, as well as preparation tips, will air throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan, at 1pm UAE (12 noon KSA). As part of the award-winning DIABETES.KNOWLEDGE.ACTION public health awareness campaign under the Patronage of HH Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, ICLDC’s team of nutritionists and specialists has developed more than 90 family-focused recipes that blend traditional cooking with lighter ingredient options.

ICLDC’s I EAT RIGHT has reached 3,500 children in eight months

Abu Dhabi concludes second annual Diabetes awareness walkathon

The second annual Diabetes awareness walkathon concluded in the capital yesterday with more than 7,500 participants pledging their support to nationwide Diabetes prevention and management. WALK UAE 2008 is part of the largest public health awareness campaign in the UAE under the patronage of H. H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The walkathon is an annual initiative organised by Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) to mark World Diabetes Day.

UAE walks against Diabetes in the lead up to National Day celebrations

ICLDC joins 500 buildings worldwide in a Global Monument Challenge drawing attention to Diabetes

Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre will be illuminated in blue to mark World Diabetes Day (on November 14 2008). Worldwide, more than 500 buildings, well-known monuments and landmarks are being illuminated to depict the blue circle symbol for Diabetes awareness.

Daman partners with ICLDC and Emirates Foundation in Diabetes awareness and prevention campaign

For the second year running, the National Health Insurance Company – Daman, has put its weight behind WALK UAE, the nation’s landmark Diabetes awareness event (scheduled for Friday November 28 2008 in Abu Dhabi). More than 10,000 people are expected to take part, up 100 per cent from last year.
